Course Overview
All work activities declared under hot works require at least one appointed trained fire patroller when applying for a hot work permit.
As part of fire safety requirements related to public and workplace emergencies, it has been proven that a well-trained workforce not only reduces the risk of fire, but in the event of one, responds quickly and effectively to minimize the damage.
Learning Units
- Familiarize yourself with the chemistry of combustion and different classes of fire.
- Identify the primary causes of fires and mechanisms of fire propagation.
- Understand the detrimental impacts and health risks posed by heat, smoke, and noxious fumes.
- Acknowledge the specific hazards inherent in hot work activities such as welding and cutting.
- Implement appropriate safety measures prior to commencing hot work operations.
- Assume the responsibilities associated with fire patrol duties conscientiously.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with various hot work processes.
- Adhere to safe operating protocols during welding and other hot work tasks on site.
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing fire extinguishers effectively and safely.
- Demonstrate competence in deploying and utilizing fire hose reels correctly.

Who Is This Course For?
- For workers or any site personnel to be appointed as a Fire Patrollers when applying for a hot work permit in non-restricted areas at landside.
- “Landside” areas are accessible to the general public without the need for a boarding pass or security clearance.
- These include check-in halls, public transport areas, car parks, and the Jewel Changi Airport complex (outside of its transit hotel and some specific secured sections). When in doubt customer can ask their main contractor/CAG if the works is in non-restricted area.
