Who Is The wSQ Operate Scissor Lift Course For?
All new operators of scissor lifts and operators who are renewing after 5 years expiry.
Ensuring safe operation of a scissor lift in Singapore requires strict compliance with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations.
Scissor lift operators must be trained and certified before use, conducting thorough pre-operation inspections to identify potential mechanical faults. The lift should always be positioned on stable, even ground, with outriggers deployed if necessary. Workers must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses for elevated work, also known as Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
Exceeding the platform’s weight limit is strictly prohibited to prevent instability. Clear communication with ground personnel is crucial, and warning signs should be placed to restrict unauthorized access.
Weather conditions must also be assessed— scissor lift operations should cease during strong winds or heavy rain. Additionally, operators must be familiar with emergency protocols, including manual descent procedures. By strictly following these safety measures, workers can mitigate risks, ensure compliance with Singapore’s regulations, and maintain a safe work environment for all personnel involved.
